Andrea Nugent’s journey is about embracing challenges and balancing career growth with family and personal passions. With 14 years of experience in tech and business, she now excels as a Senior Project Manager at Sogeti Ireland, where she manages public sector projects. Outside of work she is an All-Ireland Tag Rugby champion, a former lifeguard, and a proud mum who loves spending time outdoors with her two young boys.

Can you give us an overview of your career to date?

I  am originally from Roscommon, but now I live in the beautiful County Wicklow, also known as the Garden of Ireland. I studied Business Information Systems at the National University of Ireland, Galway, and later completed a Master’s in Management Consultancy at Smurfit Business School.

After completing my masters, I started my career with an internship at eBay. That experience along with my academic background, gave me a solid foundation in both tech and business. Over the past 14 years, I have worked across different companies, always curious about how businesses operate and more importantly, why they do what they do.

Outside of work, with the support of my husband, I am a proud mum of two fantastic boys and you will often find us hiking in the mountains or heading off on new adventures. I used to be an avid tag rugby player (given my past glory as an All-Ireland Tag Rugby Winner!)  but these days I keep myself sane through swimming.

What inspired you to join Sogeti and how has the transition been?

I have been with Sogeti for over two and a half years now. I joined in May 2022 as a Senior Project Manager and have been working on public sector projects since then. This was a brand-new environment for me having come from the private sector, where I worked with small and medium enterprises. I was ready for a new challenge and I am so glad I made the leap to Sogeti.

What really drew me to Sogeti was the people and the culture. From my first interview, I knew it was the right fit. I joined at a time when my boys had just started in creche and I was ready for a fresh challenge. Sogeti has given me that opportunity and I am grateful to be part of such a supportive team.

I am fortunate that Sogeti values work-life balance just as much as I do at the end of the day, family is my priority.

What have you learned at Sogeti that has shaped your career and personal growth?

Before joining, I was a little nervous about stepping into the consultancy world. I had two young kids, and it is easy to doubt if you can balance everything. But from day one, I realized I belonged here. Sogeti’s culture gave me the confidence to grow, and now, I’m lucky to be in a position where I can help others do the same. My line manager Ashutosh Kothiyal and our Head of Portfolio Declan Coates, are both always extremely supportive, pragmatic and always willing to listen and give sound practical advice.

One of the most rewarding parts of my role has been sitting on interview panels for new project managers and graduates. It is amazing to hear people’s stories and give them the guidance I wish I had early in my career. Everyone starts somewhere, and it is great to be able to support others on their journey.

My day now revolves around managing stakeholders, keeping projects on track, and solving challenges. I enjoy connecting with people and figuring out the ‘how’ in project management, whether it’s problem-solving, managing timelines, or sharing a laugh with the team.

Some fun and surprising facts

  • Who in the company would you switch jobs with for a day, and why:  From my initial interview, I have always admired our COO, Marie O’Connor. She is also a mum of 2 kids, extremely driven, and a dedicated and strong leader. I may not want her job for a day, that would be too scary, but I’d like to perhaps understand how she navigates, prepares for and manages her decision-making and the tough meetings we all find ourselves in.
  • Hidden talents: I worked as a lifeguard on a J1 visa in the U.S. and even saved a few people!
  • Surprising skill: Since joining Sogeti, I have developed an unexpected ability to navigate and understand legislation-something I never imagined I would be doing!
  • Dream travel destination: I would love to revisit the Middle East, where I spent time as a child, and explore the rich cultures I once experienced.
